We're into the quarterfinal round for the Blue Federal Credit Union 2025-26 top Fort Collins-area boys athlete bracket following a spirited first round of voting.
Here are the first-round voting results:
- Cadel Ruthven, Fort Collins XC/track (50.4%) vs. Carson Holley, Rocky Mountain soccer/track (49.6%)
- Jack McKeon, Fort Collins football (94.5%) vs. Alec Lundy, Heritage Christian basketball/track (5.5%)
- Robert Kendall, Windsor wrestling (83.7%) vs. Brayton Meglen, Wellington football/track (16.3%)
- Sam Lofstrom, Rocky Mountain swimming (67.8%) vs. Madden Smiley, Windsor basketball (32.2%)
- Preston Mozer, Fort Collins football/track (85.2%) vs. Leo Tornatzky, PSD nordic skiing (14.8%)
- Dylan Rubenstein, Fort Collins baseball (94.4%) vs. Isaiah Cronk, Windsor/WCA football/basketball/baseball (5.6%)
- Kaden Souders, Fort Collins football/baseball (92.6%) vs. Adam Aldridge, PSD hockey (7.4%)
- Tanner Gray, Wellington football/baseball (95.3%) vs. Dylan Mock, Timnath football/basketball/track & field (4.7%)
This quarterfinal round of voting will run through June 11 (ending at 11:59 p.m.), and the top vote-getters in each matchup will move on to the semifinals starting June 12.

Blue FCU Boys Athlete of the Year quarterfinal matchups
Cadel Ruthven (Fort Collins XC/track) vs. Jack McKeon, Fort Collins football
The resumes:
- Ruthven: Class 5A first-team all-state pick in cross-country and track. Won the 5A 1-mile state track title, second in 2-mile, fourth in 800 and scored team-best 24 points in Lambkins' blowout romp to 5A team championship. Set or lowered numerous school records in senior season.
- McKeon: Colorado's leading rusher across all classifications in 2025 season. Piled up 2,197 rushing yards and 29 total touchdowns, leading Fort Collins to a 9-3 season and 5A playoff win. Ran for school record 371 yards and four TDs in a playoff victory over ThunderRidge.
Robert Kendall (Windsor wrestling) vs. Sam Lofstrom (Rocky Mountain swimming)
The resumes:
- Kendall: Became just seventh back-to-back state champion in Windsor history. Won 4A 175-pound title as Colorado 4A Wrestler of the Year, going 45-2 overall and 33-0 vs. Colorado wrestlers. Swept through league, regional and state tournaments without needing a second period.
- Lofstrom: Was 5A first team all-state selection for second straight year, taking runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle with All-American cut. Swept city titles (4-4 including relays) and won two Northern Conference league champions as Northern Colorado's unquestioned top swimmer.
Preston Mozer (Fort Collins football/track & field) vs. Dylan Rubenstein (Fort Collins baseball)
The resumes:
- Mozer: Sophomore made a two-sport impact for Lambkins. Was second-leading receiver for 9-3 Fort Collins football squad that won a playoff game tied for league title. Also 5A first team all state in track, taking runner-up in 400 dash at state and running on Lambkins' Colorado record-smashing 4x200 state champion squad.
- Rubenstein: Northern Conference Player of the Year on the diamond as a two-way star in his senior season. Went 5-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 35 innings pitching, also hitting a team-best .405 with six homers, 10 doubles and 31 RBIs to lead Lambkins within one game of 5A state tournament.
Kaden Souders (Fort Collins football/baseball) vs. Tanner Gray (Wellington football/baseball)
The resumes:
- Souders: First-team all-conference in two sports. Led the Lambkins with 81 tackles and six interceptions at linebacker for 9-3 football squad. Hit .398 with 27 RBIs and seven home runs, including a walk-off grand slam that won a regional game for Fort Collins baseball.
- Gray: Colorado 2A Football Player of the Year, leading Eagles to dominant 13-0 state title run. Had over 1,700 yards and 31 TDs at quarterback, plus 63 tackles and nine sacks on defense. Also helped Wellington baseball to its first-ever state tournament in 3A. Batted .250 with 19 RBIs and had 2.90 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 31 innings pitched.
