Is LSU baseball a landing spot for elite transfer portal outfielder?

· Yahoo Sports

The college baseball transfer portal is in full swing and LSU baseball has already added two names to its haul. LSU secured commitments from shortstop Dawson Park and pitcher Landon Hood, but the Tigers still have needs.

One of those needs is outfield. LSU is likely to lose the bulk of its outfield production with Jake Brown, Derek Curiel, and Chris Stanfield all turning pro. LSU has talented players on the roster, though unproven. LSU missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011 this year, and Jay Johnson can't afford to rely on three inexperienced outfielders. LSU will add at least one proven veteran.

Ex-Washington outfielder Jackson Hotchkiss fits that bill. Per 64Analytics, Hotchkiss is the second-best player in the portal. He's the caliber of player LSU is in the market for as Johnson looks to rebuild the roster.

Hotchkiss enjoyed a breakout season with the Huskies in 2026, hitting 20 home runs and racking up 134 total bases. Hotchkiss hit .337 with a .416 on-base and .717 slugging. Those are elite numbers vs. power conference competition.

There's yet to be any real reporting on potential landing spots for the slugger, but there's speculation about the usual suspects. Only so many programs can land a transfer of this caliber and LSU is one of them. LSU's need at the position could push the Tigers to spend a little more, giving LSU the upper hand in a bidding war.

Johnson said he wanted to use the portal to acquire polished hitters. Hotchkiss fits that bill. There aren't many available players with this combination of contact and power.
