Tshwane announces 12-hour water interruption on Wednesday

· The South African

The City of Tshwane has confirmed a planned 12-hour water interruption affecting customers in the La Montagne Reservoir supply zone on Wednesday 11 March. The shutdown will run from 8:00 to 20:00 while technical teams carry out maintenance work on the water network.

The city said the interruption will allow technicians to replace “non-functional valves on the water supply network downstream of the said reservoir.”

The work forms part of ongoing efforts to stabilise supply and prevent unplanned outages in future.

Water interruption maintenance to strengthen the infrastructure

According to the City, the valve replacement is essential to improve the system’s performance and reliability. “This essential work is scheduled for twelve hours from 8:00 until 20:00,” the city stated.

The planned maintenance forms part of the city’s commitment to strengthening bulk water infrastructure and improving the long-term reliability of supply to residents and businesses. By replacing ageing and faulty components, officials aim to reduce leaks, bursts and pressure-related disruptions in the network.

Areas affected by the shutdown

The water interruption will affect La Concorde, Meyerspark Extensions 8, 11, 13 and 15, Nellmapius Proper and Extensions 9, 10 and 11, Salieshoek, Samcor Park Extensions 1 and 2, as well as multiple extensions in Silverton. Willow Park Manor, including all its extensions, will also experience dry taps during the scheduled period.

Residents in these areas should prepare in advance by storing enough water for drinking, cooking and sanitation.

The city “sincerely apologises for the inconvenience that may arise” and urged households to make the necessary arrangements before Wednesday morning.

Water-saving rules remain in place

Beyond the scheduled shutdown, the municipality reminded residents to maintain responsible water usage. The city encouraged households to use greywater to irrigate gardens and flush toilets where possible, and to install water-saving devices.

The city also reiterated restrictions: residents must not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 6:00 and 18:00, wash vehicles with a hosepipe, or fill swimming pools. Authorities further urged the public to report water leaks, burst pipes and any incidents of water wastage.
