The City of Tshwane’s water and sanitation business unit has scheduled the relocation of an existing water pipeline along Olievenhoutbosch Road. The work will take place over three consecutive days, beginning Tuesday, 10 March, and ending Thursday, 12 March.

The city says the project forms part of efforts to improve access to critical infrastructure and ensure that maintenance teams can reach the pipeline more easily in the future.

Pipeline relocation scheduled for three days causing water interruptions

According to the city, technicians will move the existing pipeline to a more accessible position along the road. The city says the relocation will support better maintenance and quicker response times in the event of faults.

In a statement, the city confirmed that “the relocation of an existing water pipeline on Olievenhoutbosch Road, in Irene” will take place during the scheduled period.

The city added that the infrastructure upgrade aims to improve long-term service delivery by ensuring that the pipeline sits in a location that maintenance teams can reach without difficulty.

The city explained that the pipe will be moved “to an accessible location so that it can be convenient for maintenance purposes.”

Areas expected to experience supply disruptions

Several residential estates, business districts and shopping areas will be affected while technicians complete the work. The city warned that water supply disruptions could affect Byls Bridge, Centurion Residential Estate and Highveld Technopark.

Businesses and households in Highveld, including all extensions and commercial areas, will also experience interruptions during the scheduled work.

Additional locations expected to feel the impact include Southdowns Shopping Centre, Southdowns View and Southdowns Estate.

The city has urged residents and businesses in these areas to make the necessary preparations ahead of time.

Ten-hour daily interruption expected

The city confirmed that the planned work will occur during daytime hours across the three days.

“The planned work is scheduled for ten hours from 8:00 until 18:00 on each day,” the city said.

During this time, technicians will work to relocate the pipeline safely while minimising risks to surrounding infrastructure and road users. The municipality has apologised for the inconvenience the project may cause.

“The city apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may arise as a result of this scheduled work,” officials said.
