In-conference rival hires former Wisconsin Badgers running back

· Yahoo Sports

Former Wisconsin Badgers running back Grover Bortolotti has taken a new coaching role that keeps him in the Big Ten Conference.

Bortolotti, who was on the Badgers' roster from 2021-25, immediately turned to coaching after he played in all 12 games during Wisconsin's 2025 season.

Now, he's set to be Michigan State's next assistant running backs coach. Spartans Illustrated's Ryan O'Bleness broke the news on March 12.

Head coach Luke Fickell brought Bortolotti under his wing, as he hired him in January 2026 to be the Badgers' assistant running backs coach. Bortolotti worked hand-in-hand with Wisconsin's RB Coach, Jayden Everett, though he only had a brief coaching stint with the program.

The Wisconsin native now heads to MSU, a team the Badgers will host on October 3, 2026. It'll be the second conference matchup for both teams. Interestingly enough, both the Badgers and Spartans share two non-conference opponents this season (Eastern Michigan and Notre Dame), so it's not as big a switch for Bortolotti as one would expect.
