How many showed up for Auburn basketball in NIT? Fewer than you think

· Yahoo Sports

AUBURN — On paper, a true home game in the postseason against an in-state foe sounds like enough to bring out a full house, especially for Auburn basketball, which had sold out 85 consecutive games heading into its opening-round NIT game against South Alabama on Tuesday, March 17.

Maybe it was the 9 p.m. tipoff time, or the fact that Auburn's contest wasn't part of the NCAA Tournament, but the Auburn Family didn't show out as it had for the last 85 contests, with 2,169 showing up at Neville Arena for a 78-67 win against the Jaguars.

It was the sparest crowd Auburn's had on hand for a home contest in several years, and with a capacity of 9,121, Tuesday's crowd only filled the lower bowl of Neville Arena. In total, the crowd on hand filled less than a quarter of capacity.
