Salary cap impact of Dolphins trading Jaylen Waddle to Broncos
· Yahoo Sports
The Miami Dolphins fully committed to their rebuild on Tuesday, trading wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos in a blockbuster deal that followed the release of other key players like Tyreek Hill, Bradley Chubb and Tua Tagovailoa.
While teams usually move on from these talented players to save money, trading Waddle was actually a costly financial decision for the Dolphins this week.

The wide receiver was set to have an $11.63 million cap hit for the 2026 season, but trading him created a $26.31 million cap hit and actually put the Dolphins $8.28 million over the salary cap, according to Over the Cap.
This does save them from having to pay the $33.83 million cap hit and $37.21 million cap hit in 2027 and 2028, respectively, but obviously, Miami will have to find a replacement for Waddle's production.
The Dolphins will clear $24 million after June 1 when Tagovailoa's and Chubb's releases become official on the cap, which will certainly help. They've also set themselves up nicely to spend next offseason, as the team's expected to have $156 million free.
