A 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday at Little Caesars Arena dropped the Red Wings into 10th place in the NHL’s Eastern Conference, putting their playoff hopes in serious jeopardy.
Carter Yakemchuk, one of two Ottawa defensemen making their NHL debut, contributed a goal and an assist to the victory.
Ottawa raced to a 3-0 lead. Brady Tkachuk tipped home a Tim Stutzle shot during a Senators power play to open the scoring.
In the second period, Yakemchuk and Lars Eller scored for the Senators. Dominik Shine got one back for the Red Wings before the end of the frame.

Early in the third period, Detroit captain Dylan Larkin, making his return from a seven-game absence due to a lower-body injury, narrowed the Ottawa margin to 3-2 with a power-play goal.
John Gibson took the loss in goal for Detroit.

However, Ottawa challenged the goal and won the challenge when replays showed Patrick Kane putting himself offside as he entered the zone.
