The Division I Men's and Women's Golf Oversight Committee has submitted a proposal that would immediately change the dates for the Division I transfer portal window.

The committee filed an amendment to rule 13.1.1.4, with a hearing set for April 2, to discuss changing the dates for student-athletes to enter the transfer portal. The amendment reads as follows: specify that an undergraduate student-athlete may initiate notification of transfer Dec. 1-15 or a 15 consecutive-day period beginning the day after the conclusion of the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Golf Championships, respectively.

For the 2025-26 season, athletes could have entered the portal during the Dec. 1-15 window, but the spring dates are different. For the women, the portal is set to open May 6 and close June 4. The men's portal window opens May 13 and closes June 11.

Per the amendment filing, the Oversignt Committee says the current timing of the 30-day notification of transfer period raises concerns related to preserving the integrity of the Division I Men's and Women's Golf Championships. Modifying the notification of transfer window maintains the integrity of the championships and allows all student-athletes to conclude their seasons before engaging in activities related to transferring. The Oversight Committee says reducing the duration of the window is supported by data from the NCAA Transfer Portal, which confirms most student-athletes whose name are entered into the transfer portal complete the process in an expedited manner.

The Men's and Women's Golf Oversight Committee recommended the changes Feb. 26, and the NCAA is meeting April 2 about the proposed transfer portal. If passed, the amendment would take place immediately, changing the transfer portal dates for this spring and beyond.
