McGonigle, who collected a historic four hits Thursday in his first Detroit Tigers game on Opening Day, crushed a 1-2 sinker from right-hander Michael King in the second inning to the 396 sign in center field.
But San Diego Paders center fielder Jackson Merrill leaped at the wall and caught the baseball for the second out of the inning to keep the game scoreless. It looked like Merrill got about 3 feet off the ground to complete the robbery.

McGonigle's first home run in the majors will have to wait a bit longer.
