Home Affairs to reveal status of Chidimma, Nigerian ‘king’

The Department of Home Affairs has been called to give a report on the citizenship status of beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina as well as Nigerian “king” Solomon Ogbonna Eziko, whose alleged coronation in KuGompo City [formerly East London] made headlines last month.
HOME AFFAIRS TO PROVIDE CITIZENSHIP REPORT OF CHIDIMMA ADETSHINA
The Civic movement, the Progressive Forces of South Africa, has launched a Change.org petition calling on the Department of Home Affairs to provide a detailed report on issues concerning two individuals, one of whom is former Miss South Africa finalist Chidimma Adetshina.

The organisation is seeking clarification on the beauty queen’s whereabouts and citizenship status. They also require an update on an investigation launched by the department into Chidimma’s mother, Anabela Rungo, who was found guilty of contravening the Immigration Act and the Identification Act.
The beauty queen was born in SA to a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother, the latter of whom was accused of registering her birth in South Africa by using fraudulent documents.
Rungo, who is not a South African citizen, was also charged with identity fraud.
She was arrested last year and appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates Court.
By default, due to her relationship with her mother, both women were stripped of their South African IDs and passports.

Chidimma withdrew from the Miss SA organisation but later competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, which she won. She also competed in Miss Universe, where she placed as first runner-up.
Last year, she returned to her home in Cape Town, likely using her Nigerian identity and travel documents.
The DHA has previously refused to comment on the criminal investigation into Chidimma’s family. They’ve also remained mum on how or why she was permitted back in the country.
IMMIGRATION STATUS OF NIGERIAN ‘KING’ TO ALSO BE PROBED
Apart from Chidimma Adetshina, the DHA is also being called to probe the immigration status of Nigerian national, Solomon Ogbonna Eziko.
Images circulating on social media of Eziko’s reported coronation, crowning him as “Igwe Ndigba” of KuGompo City, sparked widespread backlash from the public and political parties.
The Nigerian High Commission waded into the unrest, claiming the event was a “cultural celebration” rather than the “installation” of a king within South African borders.
The event was accused of possibly violating the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act 3 of 2019, which governs the recognition of traditional leadership structures in South Africa.

Eziko’s immigration status is unknown, and the DHA has not disclosed whether he is illegal, undocumented, or in breach of visa conditions.
