Bayern Munich didn’t set the standard, it is the standard

One of the more boring clichés in modern sport is, “the standard is the standard.”

In the case of Bayern Munich…that might actually be true.
During their 5-0 victory over St. Pauli in the Bundesliga, the Bavarians scored their record breaking 102nd goal in the league.
Funny enough, it was not Harry Kane, Michael Olise, or Luis Díaz — who have combined for 57 goals in the Bundesliga this season — who scored the record breaker, it was sometimes maligned midfielder Leon Goretzka:

The goal itself was actually really nice as Goretzka volleyed a flicked header from a St. Pauli defender, but it was about more than just that. It was yet another example of the attacking domination that this unit has been able to show all season. Even in a game where Bayern Munich’s Big Three only combined for one goal (Kane did not play), there just always seems to be someone ready, willing, and able to step up.
Clearly, the weekend’s birthday boy — head coach Vincent Kompany — has a lot to do with that:

✅ Four goals more than any other Bundesliga side ever scored in a single season, with five more matches to go
✅ Can secure their 35th league title as soon as next weekend

As always at Bayern Munich, the focus remains on trophies, but for a moment — yes, a very brief moment — people can look on in admiration of the attacking greatness that we are witnessing week to week.
This kind of production has been nothing short of special.
