Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois sit down for a face to face talk ahead of their May 9 WBO heavyweight title fight. During the talk, both made mention of their perceived areas of advantage against one another as they both express confidence that they’ll be the one walking away with the belt with Dubois in particular breaking down his view that Wardley has just been on a lucky streak.

Wardley on his mentality heading into Dubois fight

“Ultimately no one knows my level but me, and I believe I can go all the way to the top. I don’t think there’s a man that can stand in front of me and make it through the 12 rounds with me. Again, as good of a fighter as Daniel is, he’s been in with some good guys — I don’t think he’s the man to do it, either.”

Dubois on facing Wardley

“He’s been lucky up until now and I need to take his 0. He hasn’t faced a fighter like me. Full credit to him, though. He’s come through everything that’s been put in front of him and now is my time. I feel like I’ve been through what I’ve need to, been beat up bad, scars and all that. I’m experienced and I’m ready to go.”

Wardley on Dubois saying he’s been lucky

“I think my journey, if anything, has been the opposite of lucky. I’ve been thrown in the deep end — or at least thrown myself in the deep end a number of times in terms of challenging for bigger opponents, pushing myself…It’s no one else forcing me into these situations, it’s me picking them and going ‘no, I want this person.’”

Wardley on if Dubois has quit in him

“I think in some fights he’s shown that he’s shied away from the challenge in some situations, yeah. But in others — it’s always about the roundabout with him. Sometimes you don’t know what you’re going to get because in other fights he has proven, bit down, like Hrgovic for example, and got stuck into that where it was a back and forth fight.

“And then there’s been other occasions where he hasn’t done, so I think in that scenario it depends on Daniel and what Daniel shows up on the night and how he feels about the situation and if he feels he can climb his way back or not. If he feels like he’s in a situation where he can’t, maybe those inner demons get to him a bit and just doesn’t want it.”
