A few days after safety Khalil Terry decommitted from Notre Dame and quickly flipped to the UCLA Bruins, the Fighting Irish have landed a commitment from three-star safety John Gay III, according to On3's Hayes Fawcett.
Gay visited Notre Dame last week and decided to pull the trigger on Wednesday, picking the Fighting Irish over the Florida Gators, Syracuse Orange, Ole Miss Rebels, and more. He is from Hollywood, Florida, and attends Chaminade-Madonna Prep. His running backs coach as a freshman was Notre Dame assistant wide receivers coach Shaun Shivers.

He is ranked as the No. 831 overall player and No. 91 safety in the Rivlas industry ranking. He is also the No. 91 player from Florida, where two of Notre Dame's nine commits are from.
Gay had a productive junior season at Chaminade-Madonna, helping lead them to an 11-3 record. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder recorded 32 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, one interception, and three pass breakups in 12 games.
His addition gives Notre Dame the No. 8 recruiting class in the country, according to Rivals. Seven of their nine commits are four-star prospects, with cornerbacks Xavier Hasan and Ace Alston, and interior offensive lineman James Halter all ranking among the top 100 players in the country.
