It was reportedly one day after Vrabel attended a scouting event at Arizona State in Tempe, and one day before he and Russini both attended the NFL owners meeting at the Biltmore hotel in Phoenix.

Page Six released the photos of Vrabel and Russini, which show them alone at the resort, hugging, holding hands and sitting together by a pool. The outlet referred to the photographer as its "spy."
April 7: Vrabel, Russini and The Athletic release statements downplaying the photos
Vrabel, Russini and The Athletic all released different statements downplaying the photos, with Athletic executive editor Steven Ginsberg saying they're "misleading and lack essential context."
April 10: Russini sidelined as The Athletic opens probe
After initially backing Russini, The Athletic opened an investigation into the reporter, Front Office Sportsreported, adding that she would be sidelined while the probe was ongoing. The New York Times, which owns The Athletic, confirmed the investigation one day later with a report of its own.

The outlet said the photos, which show Vrabel and the woman kissing, were snapped on March 11, 2020 at a secluded New York City bar.
