Carolina Flores Gomez, 27, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head at her affluent Polanco home, in the Miguel Hidalgo district of Mexico City on April 15, according to Reporte Indigo .
Authorities believe Gomez, who was Miss Teen Universe for Baja California in 2017, was killed a day before her body was discovered, prompting investigators to look into why her husband, Aljeandro Gomez, took so long to report the death.
Alejandro and his mother, Erika Maria, were said to be at home at the time of the murder, according to the outlet.
Maria is the prime suspect, prosecutors said, though Alejandro was also questioned over the timeline of the tragic events.
Security staff at the building reported hearing no gunshots, nor did they witness any unusual activity prior to Carolina’s death.
Forensic teams have searched the apartment for evidence.

Baja California governor Marina del Pilar Avila has called for an investigation into the matter as violence against women continues to be rampant in the country.
More than 2,526 women have been murdered from 1993 through 2023, and hundreds more have disappeared, according to government data, per the United Nations .
That’s about 10 women and girls killed daily in Mexico by intimate partners or family members, according to the UN, which rates the nation as one of the most violent countries for women in the world.
“No crime against a woman should go unpunished. Our thoughts are with her family during this devastating time,” Avila told reporters, per The Mirror .
The investigation is ongoing.
