Reinforcing its commitment towards preserving India’s rich railway legacy, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully restored the historic Steam Locomotive No. 801-B, originally built in 1927 by M/s North British Locomotive Company Ltd., Glasgow, UK.
The meticulous renovation has been carried out at the New Bongaigaon Workshop (NBQS), blending heritage conservation with modern technological enhancements. The restored locomotive has been equipped with synchronized real steam locomotive sound, simulated smoke emission and dynamic lighting effects, bringing the vintage machine back to life in a visually and acoustically immersive manner, recreating the authentic ambiance of the steam era. The enhancements have been carefully designed to maintain historical integrity while significantly improving experiential appeal for viewers.
