WR Collects Over ₹27 Crore As Fine Through Intensive Ticket Checking Drives During The Month Of April 2026

Western Railway has once again achieved a milestone in Ticket Checking by recording its highest-ever monthly ticket checking revenue of ₹27.37 crore in April 2026, surpassing the previous best of ₹25.98 crore recorded in May 2022, marking an increase of over 5%.

In order to ensure hassle-free, comfortable travel and to curb the menace of ticketless and irregular travel, intensive ticket checking drives are carried out continuously over Mumbai suburban services, Mail/Express trains, passenger trains as well as holiday special trains. The highly motivated Ticket Checking team, under the supervision of Senior Commercial Officers of Western Railway, conducted extensive drives across the network during April 2026. As a result, over 3.60 lakh ticketless and irregular passengers were detected, garnering penalty of more than ₹27 crore, which is an increase of more than 25% as compared to April 2025 which recorded ₹21.89 crore. Also, the penalty garnered is over 13% higher than the set target of ₹24.07 crore.

According to a press release issued by the Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, Vineet Abhishek, several divisions recorded outstanding performance during the month of April 2026 , with Mumbai Central Division contributing ₹13.06 crore, followed by Ahmedabad Division with ₹4.22 crore and Ratlam Division with ₹3.41 crore, all achieving their highest revenue collections in the last five years.

To prevent unauthorized travel in AC suburban locals, focused and surprise ticket checking drives were also carried out. During April 2026, over 14 thousand cases were detected in AC local trains, resulting in a penalty collection of around ₹44 lakh, which is an increase of more than 117% over the corresponding period last year which recorded ₹20.24 lakh. Overall, during April 2026 in the Mumbai Suburban section of Western Railway, 1.1 lakh ticketless and irregular passengers were detected and a penalty of over ₹6 crore was recovered.

These impressive results highlight the sustained efforts and dedication of Western Railway’s Commercial Department in minimizing revenue leakage, ensuring passenger discipline and safeguarding railway revenue.
