Seahawks' weakest division rival could get weaker following trade buzz

The Seattle Seahawks will enter the 2026 season facing stiff competition from the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers for the NFC West division title. One team they probably don't have to worry about is the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals are coming off an NFL-worst 3-14 record and appear to be conducting a full-blown rebuild under first-year head coach Mike LaFleur.

Arizona is already dealing with a number of offseason distractions. Starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett is staying away from OTAs due to a contract-related dispute. Well, another massive distraction just revealed itself.

Star pass rusher Josh Sweat has also been absent from OTAs and is disgruntled with the Cardinals, according to local insider Kyle Odegard. It's unknown what Sweat's current beef with Arizona is. He's in Year Two of a lucrative long-term contract, though it doesn't possess any guaranteed money beyond 2026. That could be the crux of his issue.

Alternatively, Sweat signed with Arizona last offseason to reunite with Jonathan Gannon, who became the Cardinals' head coach in 2023 after two years as the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive coordinator, where he coached Sweat. He could be disappointed that the Cardinals have already fired Gannon.

The Seahawks possess new goals for 2026. Repeating as NFC West (and Super Bowl) champions is Mike Macdonald's top priority. There's virtually no threat from the Cardinals, and their latest issue with Sweat, their star pass rusher, makes things even worse.
