It is going to be extremely difficult to land tickets for the final New York Knicks home games of the season, with the team making the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999.

But if there’s one person who won’t have any trouble attending, it’s American President Donald Trump. The New York Times , citing three sources, said Trump, a New York City native, was planning to attend a game this week and will probably now attend at least one Finals game at Madison Square Garden. His previous plans were scuttled when New York completed a four-game sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers in Cleveland.

The Knicks will start the championship round in either Oklahoma City (the Thunder can advance in six games with a win over the San Antonio Spurs in Texas Thursday night) before the series shifts to Manhattan for games on June 8 and June 10.

President a life-long fan

Trump, 79, is a life-long Knicks fan who last saw the team win a title in 1973. Knicks owner James Dolan is also a big Trump supporter, having made large donations to his campaigns over the years and is a member at Mar-A-Lago.

“I get along with Jim Dolan, I think he’s a really nice guy and he’s entitled to a good team because he’s suffered a little bit,” Trump told TalkRadio 77 WABC recently.

Tickets for the Finals games have reportedly set records .

Trump has already been to the U.S. Open, Daytona 500, a New York Yankees game and other sporting events this year. He’d become the first sitting president to attend an NBA Finals game. Former president Barack Obama attended a 2019 NBA Finals game in Toronto between the Raptors and Golden State Warriors. Obama is a friend of former Raptors boss Masai Ujiri.

The White House did not respond to a request for comment by the New York Times, but a Madison Square Garden spokesperson told the publication that any president is “always welcome” in the building.
