Davide Ancelotti named new head coach of Lille

Davide Ancelotti already has his next job lined up after the 2026 World Cup, and it will not be alongside his father Carlo. The Brazil national team assistant has signed a two-year deal with Lille in France.

With a strong track record working alongside his father, the current Brazil manager, Davide has been looking to step out from Carlo's shadow. His first spell as a head coach came in Brazil with Botafogo, where he took charge of 32 matches in 2025 without making a major impact. He is now set for his first role as a coach in Europe.

The Lille side Davide Ancelotti takes over have just completed a strong season in France, finishing third behind only PSG and the surprise package Lens. The club had been led by Bruno Genesio, who agreed to leave the role by mutual consent after the end of his contract despite a stint widely regarded as positive.

Lille highlighted Davide's time at Botafogo and his modern tactical approach and human values, as well as his ability to communicate in several languages to manage a multicultural dressing room and his capacity to develop young talent.

In 2025/26, Lille's standouts included veterans such as Olivier Giroud, the team's top scorer, and youngsters such as Ayyoub Bouaddi, the 18-year-old Moroccan midfielder, and Hákon Haraldsson, the 23-year-old Icelandic winger.
