Texas A&M sophomore RB listed as breakout candidate in 2026

Texas A&M's 2026 running back room is much deeper compared to the last two seasons, knowing that senior Rueben Owens will be back in the starting lineup, while rising sophomore Jamarion Morrow, who was too skilled to keep off the field during his freshman campaign, will likely compete with Owens for the starting job this fall.

Last season, after veteran starter Le'Veon Moss was lost for the year, Owens stepped up, leading the Aggies with 639 yards and five touchdowns, both career highs, but failed to capitalize on his midseason success during the latter half of the year, especially during A&M's back-to-back losses to Texas on the road and Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
Standing 5'11" and over 220 pounds, the former five-star prospect possesses the traits to lead the SEC in rushing this season, but Jamarion Morrow, who looks like the best one-cut running back on the roster, could end up winning the starting job after showing off his offseason improvement during the Aggies' Maroon & White Game on April 18.
Both players will perform behind an offensive line that now features four new starters, but already looked improved in run blocking during the spring game, allowing Morrow to slash his way through each gap, producing several explosive runs, and looking more and more like Le'Veon Moss during the 2024 season.
This offseason, Roc Boys Football has put together a number of preseason rankings, and among the Power Four running backs poised to break out, Jamarion Morrow comes in third on their watch list. During his 2025 freshman season, Morrow rushed for 182 yards and a touchdown, averaging 4.2 yards per carry.
