A look back at the 1992 season for the Cardinals
In Joe Bugel's third year as head coach, things were still not good. They finished 4-12 for the second consecutive season. They lost six of their first seven games and ended the season losing six of seven.
Starting quarterback Timm Rosenbach had missed all of the 1991 season with a knee injury he suffered in training camp. He played three games, injured his shoulder and suffered a concussion, and didn't start again. It ended up being his final NFL season. Chris Chandler started the remaining 13 games.
They had four Pro Bowlers — kick returner Johnny Bailey, punter Rich Camarillo, cornerback Robert Massey and safety Tim McDonald. Camarillo was first-team All-Pro as a punter and McDonald was a second-team All-Pro in his final year with the Cardinals before he left in free agency to join the San Francisco 49ers.
1992 offensive leaders
Chandler started 13 games. He completed 59.3% of his passes for 2,832 yards, 15 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
Running back Johnny Johnson led the team with 734 rushing yards and six touchdowns. It was his final season with the Cardinals before he was traded to the New York Jets.
Ricky Proehl had the most receptions with 60, gaining 744 yards and scoring three times. Randall Hill had 58 receptions and led the team with 861 yards and three scores.
1993 defensive leaders
McDonald led the team with 107 tackles, followed by linebacker Eric Hill with 103. Massey had five interceptions, three returned for touchdowns. He returned two picks for touchdowns in a game.
Ken Harvey and Mike Jones tied for the team lead in sacks with six.
