Steelers 2026 minicamp takeaways
· Yahoo Sports
The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up minicamp on Friday and now have a month until the start of training camp. The Mike McCarthy era is in fill swing and by all accounts this team looks and feels very different from the Mike Tomlin era Steelers. Here are the five big takeaways from minicamp.

No news is bad news about Broderick Jones
There's been basically nothing out of minicamp about the recovery of offensive tackle Broderick Jones and his neck injury. This is bad news for Jones who is already staring down losing his starting job and a chance at a new contract with the Steelers at the end of the season.
Will Howard widens the gap
At this point, the pick of Drew Allar in the third round seems like a bad pick as second-year quarterback Will Howard continues to develop on the fly and looks like he might have a stranglehold on the backup spot if he can put together a strong training camp.
Germie Bernard ahead of schedule
Bernard was easily our favorite Steelers pick in the 2026 NFL draft and so far, he has not disappointed. Bernard always played with a high football IQ and was never overwhelmed no matter what was asked of him and this is already serving him well as the coaches look for his fit int he Steelers offense.
Daylen Everett way ahead of schedule
By all accounts, Everett is the best Steelers defensive rookie at minicamp and has been highly impressive. Everett's pre-draft negatives were never about his physical tools or technique and all about his lack of consistency and not stepping up in big moments. If those are a thing of the past, this pick will end up a bargain.
Offensive line is half done
Speaking of the offensive line, the Steelers seem to be on track to have a better lineup this season, due in large part to moving the right side of the offensive line to the left. There's plenty of debate about how hard or easy this is but for Troy Fautanu and Mason McCormick, it has been a return to their natural spots. The right side, however, remains a work in progress.
