Media personality arrested in Gauteng on e-hailing kidnapping charge

A 45-year-old media personality has been arrested by Gauteng police following an alleged kidnapping and shooting incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale, east of Johannesburg.

The suspect faces charges of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public area, and defeating the ends of justice.
Prevented from leaving
According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday morning after an e-hailing driver transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale.
Upon arrival, the driver was allegedly confronted by the suspect, who accused him of being romantically involved with his girlfriend.
Police allege that the suspect then forced the driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving the scene.
During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver.
Fortunately, the e-hailing driver escaped unharmed and managed to drive to a nearby police station, where he reported the incident.
Responded swiftly
Gauteng police responded swiftly and arrested the suspect shortly afterwards.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Tintswalo Sibeko, confirmed the arrest and said investigations are ongoing.
“The suspect allegedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the incident, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver.
“The e-hailing driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the matter. Police acted swiftly and arrested the suspect shortly after the incident,” Sibeko said.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 June.
Police have not yet released the identity of the arrested media personality, and investigations remain ongoing.
