New Texas A&M pitching coach making an immediate impact
· Yahoo Sports
Texas A&M's 2026 season ended at the hands of USC in the College Station Regional, as coach Michael Earley's second year at the helm wasn't a massive disappointment by any means, but due to pitching problems, especially from the starting rotation, second-year pitching coach Jason Kelley was fired, which was the right choice given the lack of development over the last two seasons.

Michael Earley's future is secure, for now, and making this decision was the first step in the right direction. Just weeks after Kelley was dismissed, Earley made his decision to hire MLB pitching coach/coordinator Barry Enright, who has served as the pitching coach for Arizona, the Los Angeles Angels, and the Oakland Athletics' pitching coach/coordinator since 2019.
Similar to current Texas and former Texas A&M pitching coach Max Weiner, Enright's MLB background was highly sought after, while his lack of recruiting experience was the primary issue. Over the last week, Enright and the Aggies have landed two of the top transfer arms, including former UNLV RHP Jase Evangelista, who was 4-1 with 64 strikeouts as a junior.
Combined with Wichita State transfer pitcher Johnny Nuanez, who finished the 2026 season with 6-2 with a 2.56 ERA over 56 1/3 innings, making 12 starts in 13 appearances, Enright has already proven his ability to connect with transfer players and sell Texas A&M just days after officially becoming the new pitching coach.
This is likely just the start of what Earley and Elright look to accomplish in the transfer portal to sure up the 2027 pitching rotation, and they are hoping to retain starters Shane Sdao and Weston Moss, while the top priority remains keeping reliable closer Clayton Freshcorn in the fold.
