Kevin Stefanski comments on James Pearce attending Falcons minicamp

The Atlanta Falcons have kicked off their three-day mandatory minicamp, and edge rusher James Pearce Jr. is among those present at the team's Flowery Branch training facility. Pearce had been away from the team since he was arrested and charged with three felony charges over the offseason.

Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski addressed the media prior to Tuesday's practice and provided an update on Pearce.

"He'll do work in the weight room," Stefanski said of Pearce. "He'll do individuals. He's not going to do team settings, team period type of stuff yet. Just feel like with him not being here for the offseason program to date, I don't think it's fair to put him in those type of drills, but he'll be out there.

Pearce's charges, which stem from an offseason arrest for stalking his ex-girlfriend and resisting officers, could be wiped away if he completes a rehabilitation program.

"Those charges will be dropped if Pearce stays out of trouble for the next year, passes random drug tests and remains compliant with a mental health treatment program," wrote ESPN's Marc Raimondi.

Last season, Pearce led all NFL rookies with 10.5 sacks. The former first-round pick appeared to be a steal for the Falcons before he was arrested for physically stalking his ex-girlfriend.

While the NFL is expected to punish Pearce for his violation of the personal conduct policy, the league has yet to make an official determination.
