NBA fans defend Victor Wembanyama after Jeremy Sochan clip

The video sparked plenty of reaction online, with many fans siding with Wembanyama rather than criticising him for the cold exchange.

One fan questioned what Sochan expected from the Spurs forward after the moment between the pair.

“What was he expecting?? A hug??”

Another fan argued that Sochan had played his part in creating the tense moment before Wembanyama walked past him.

“So you bump into Wemby, try to intimidate him and bully him, but you want a handshake? F— you!”

Others joked about Sochan’s unusual situation, given he was set to receive a championship ring because of his role with the Knicks.

“He should have laughed and said I got more rings than you!”

Jeremy Sochan’s Spurs history added another layer to Finals moment

Jeremy Sochan had previously played for the San Antonio Spurs before moving to the New York Knicks during the season.

That history made the Game 5 clip more notable because he had shared a locker room with Wembanyama before becoming an opponent in the Finals.

Some fans compared the moment to other high-profile NBA exchanges involving rivals and former teammates.

“He wants them dapping him up like Draymond did LeBron.”

Another fan suggested that any previous trash talk during the series may have influenced the lack of acknowledgement.

“He was talking too much s— to Spurs to get handshakes!”

One supporter also noted that Sochan had been with San Antonio before several current Spurs players and may not have chosen to leave the team.

“Sochan was on the Spurs before any of them except Vassell. It probably wasn’t his choice to leave. You know he was yelling and they just straight up ignored him too.”

The clip became another talking point from a Finals series that ended with the Knicks defeating the Spurs to win the NBA championship.
