Palace City 14U grabs one win against Yankton in doubleheader

Jun. 18—MITCHELL — The Palace City 14-and-under baseball team split a home doubleheader against Yankton on Wednesday at Drake Field. PCB won the first game 13-9 in six innings and lost the second game 16-5 in four innings.

It was all PCB early, scoring multiple runs in each of the first three innings to go ahead 8-0. Yankton scored four runs in the top of the fifth, and Mitchell answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame.
Preston Maeschen and Keniel Padilla each tallied three hits and three RBIs, as Isaac Fischer also drove in three runs on one hit and one walk. Meade Schlimgen and Oaklee Cwach contributed two hits apiece. Gavin Auch was the winning pitcher, hurling five innings in his start.
For Yankton, Brody Wrage, Karter Reifenrath, Colin Frazee and William Schoenfelder had two hits apiece.
In the second game, the PCB offense that erupted earlier in the day was limited to three hits but worked 10 walks. Maeschen had two hits and scored twice, and Micah Bennett had the remaining hit. Schlimgen, Fischer, Auch and Kristopher Hatwan drew two walks apiece.
Reifenrath had a three-hit, five-RBI performance and was also the starting pitcher, while Ethan Sager added two hits and three RBIs for the Lakers. Yankton ended the game early by scoring 12 runs in the fourth inning after trailing 5-4 to start the frame.
PCBA 14U (6-11) is set to compete in the Sioux Falls Slam tournament from June 19-21.
