Wyatt Hendrickson wins spot on USA Wrestling world team, Jax Forrest barely misses out

Former Oklahoma State wrestling national champion Wyatt Hendrickson earned a spot on the USA World Team with a win over Mason Parris in the best-of-three 125-kilogram bout at Final X on Friday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Another Cowboy national champ, sophomore-to-be Jax Forrest, pushed his Final X series to the decisive third match, but was defeated by Penn State’s Marcus Blaze for the spot at 61 kg.

Zahid Valencia, who did not wrestle at OSU but is a part of the Cowboy Regional Training Center, also was defeated one win shy of qualifying for the World Team. Kyle Dake defeated Valencia in the decisive match to earn the 86 kg spot.
Hendrickson also earned a spot on Team USA last year, but did not medal at the World Championships.
This year’s World Championships are set for Oct. 24-Nov. 1 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
