Buffalo Bills 2026 training camp position battle to watch
· Yahoo Sports
NFL teams have wrapped up their respective organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamps, and after a near month-long break, they’ll pick things back up near the end of July for training camp.
The first preseason game takes place on Thursday, Aug. 6 on NBC when the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals face off in the Hall of Fame Game. The rest of the preseason’s first week will take place from Aug. 13-15, followed by Week 2 on Aug. 20-23, and Week 3 on Aug. 27-29.

But before the preseason gets underway, teams must first report to training camp. The Buffalo Bills are set to report to camp on July 29, and below is their biggest position battle to watch this summer.
Position Battle: WR | Keon Coleman vs. Joshua Palmer vs. Skyler Bell

(Photo by Lauren Leigh Bacho/Getty Images)Wide receiver has been the one position Buffalo just hasn’t had an answer for since Stefon Diggs left, but their WR corps heading into 2026 is the best they’ve had in the last three years.
Trading for DJ Moore gives Josh Allen a bona-fide weapon on the perimeter who can make plays, win contested catches, stretch the field, and put up 1,000 yards easily.
The problem is behind Moore and Khalil Shakir, who’s been the team’s WR1 by default the last couple of years, there are a lot of question marks.
Coleman should be favored to win the WR3 job, but he hasn’t had the smoothest of transitions to the NFL.
A second-round pick in 2024, Coleman saw a drop in his production last year and he was benched multiple times for off-the-field issues. But with Joe Brady being promoted to head coach, there’s a chance Coleman gets the benefit of the doubt and Brady designs an offense to play to his strengths.
If Coleman implodes again, Palmer will likely be the beneficiary. The 26-year-old wideout caught 22 passes for 303 yards last season in a limited role across 12 games. Palmer is just three years removed from a 72-catch, 769-yard, three-touchdown season with the Los Angeles Chargers, and he’s proven what he can do when given enough touches.

He caught 101 passes, 1,278 yards, and 13 touchdowns at UConn last season, and his skillset reminds former player turned coach Dean Marlowe of another Bills WR great.
“He honestly reminds me of a younger [Stefon] Diggs,” Marlowe said during an appearance on “The Film Room” podcast. “And he might be a little bit faster. … Skyler Bell has done a fabulous job. He doesn’t look like a rookie to me.”
