Western Railway Celebrates International Day Of Yoga With Enthusiasm Across The Zone

The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great enthusiasm across Western Railway on Sunday, 21st June, 2026. Ramashray Pandey, General Manager, Western Railway participated in the celebrations held at Western Railway Headquarters, Churchgate. The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga was “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”

According to a press release issued by Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, the celebrations commenced with the live telecast of the address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed by the nationwide Common Yoga Protocol programme. Thereafter, a Yoga session was organised at Western Railway Headquarters wherein Ramashray Pandey, General Manager, Smt. Sujata Pandey, President, Western Railway Women Welfare Organisation (WRWWO), Principal Heads of Departments, Heads of Departments, Senior Officers, representatives of recognised unions and staff members enthusiastically participated.
The theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” highlights the importance of yoga in promoting physical mobility, mental well-being and overall vitality throughout life. Through its emphasis on regular physical activity, mindful breathing and inner balance, yoga contributes significantly towards healthy and active ageing. By encouraging the adoption of yoga as a way of life, Western Railway continues to promote holistic wellness and preventive healthcare among its employees and their families.
Participants performed various yog asanas, pranayama and meditation exercises under the Common Yoga Protocol, reaffirming their commitment towards physical fitness, mental resilience and overall well-being.
Yoga sessions were also organised at all six divisions of Western Railway, workshops, training institutes, depots, sheds and other railway establishments where officers, supervisors, staff members and their family members participated in large numbers. The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation across the Zone, reflecting the growing awareness regarding the benefits of yoga and its role in fostering a healthier lifestyle.
Western Railway also disseminated awareness messages and digital creatives through its social media platforms to encourage people to incorporate yoga into their daily routine. Through these initiatives, Western Railway reaffirmed its commitment towards promoting health, wellness and a balanced lifestyle among its employees and the travelling public.
