Yaxel Lendeborg on Dusty May leaving Michigan: 'He better pick me up'

One of former Michigan basketball coach Dusty May's biggest stars has a message for the new NBA coach.

May is leaving the Wolverines after two seasons to become the coach of the Dallas Mavericks, reportedly interested in the job partly due to second-year star Cooper Flagg. And with the Mavericks holding the No. 9 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, May could also reunite with at least one Michigan player.

At least that's what former star Yaxel Lendeborg is thinking.

In a video shared on X by basketball reporter Chancellor Johnson, Lendeborg said he was "super happy" hearing the news of May's job change and that he was hoping for May to consider him in the upcoming draft.

"I'm going to tell him he better pick me up," Lendeborg said. "If he doesn't, I'm going to be mad, I might block him."

It's not out of the question that May and the Mavs could draft any of Lendeborg, former Michigan center Aday Mara or forward Morez Johnson with the No. 9 overall pick. The Ringer's most recent mock draft, for example, has Mara going at No. 11 overall, Lendeborg at No. 13 and Johnson at No. 14.

Lendeborg may not be satisfied if May drafts just one Michigan player, however, dropping outgoing seniors Roddy Gayle Jr. and Nimari Burnett into the Mavericks' potential plans.

"If we all get an opportunity to play there, that would be awesome," he said. "Maybe he can snag Roddy and Nimari as well, we can have a whole Michigan starting lineup once again."
