Locals in the Pros: Four former Schuylkill League standouts continue minor league journeys

The 2026 major league and minor league baseball seasons are officially nearing or have passed the halfway mark.

Currently, four former local athletes are playing in affiliated baseball in the minor leagues. Here is how each of those four athletes is performing so far this season.

P John Holobetz, Boston Red Sox

The former Crimson Tide standout is 3-3 through 12 games and 11 starts this season while pitching to a 5.01 ERA in 55.2 innings pitched for the Double-A Portland Seadogs. He’s struck out 61 in the process while walking 20. Notably, his 20 walks in 55.2 IP is the same amount that he had last season in 2025.

P Thomas Schultz, Washington Nationals

The former multi-sport athlete at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional is having a promising season for the Nationals’ Double-A affiliate, the Harrisburg Senators, pitching in 25 games and totaling 32.2 innings. In the process, he has pitched to a 3.58 ERA and struck out 38.

1B Reggie Crawford, San Francisco Giants

The former North Schuylkill star finally made his long awaited return to the diamond recently after not playing for two years. In his first at-bat back, playing in the Arizona Rookie League on a rehab assignment, the former first-round pick hit a home run. In four games, Crawford has collected three hits in 12 at-bats and two RBI.

P Nate Nabholz, San Francisco Giants

Former Blue Mountain standout Nate Nabholz has received his first chance in affiliated baseball. After a quality 11 games for Tri-City of the Frontier League, Nabholz had his contract selected by the San Francisco Giants. In his first appearance for the Giants’ Single-A affiliate, the San Jose Giants, he allowed one run on a home run in a single inning of work.
