Dustin Poirier is asking for help.
The former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim Lightweight champion released an emotional statement on Instagram today after a rough week, which included his arrest in Georgia on Father’s Day and the release of disturbing body-camera footage from the airport encounter.

“I’m at the point where I need some help,” Poirier wrote. “Walking away from fighting hasn’t been easy on me and alcohol isn’t the answer. It has ruined my father’s life and I will not allow it to ruin mine, my family deserve me at 100%. I’m trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right next steps.”
The statement came after Poirier was booked this past Sunday (June 21, 2026) on a misdemeanor public drunkenness charge following an incident at an airport in Georgia. “The Diamond” was released from custody a few hours later, and his mugshot was eventually released.
Then, earlier today, body-camera footage showed a clearly intoxicated and agitated Poirier threatening to fight police after he was allegedly removed from a plane.
At one point in the video, Poirier took off his backpack and appeared to challenge the responding officer.
“I’ll fight you right now,” Poirier said in the footage. “I’ll go with you right now. Let’s go.”
As the situation escalated, the officer pulled out his taser and repeatedly told Poirier to stay back. Poirier continued moving toward him and asked, “Are you going to tase me?”
Thankfully, the situation did not get worse. Another officer eventually arrived, and Poirier surrendered without anyone getting hurt.
Shortly after the initial news broke, Poirier posted a brief message on Instagram, writing, “Love you all. I’m working on myself.”
His latest statement went much further.
It is a brutally honest message from one of the most beloved fighters of his generation.
Poirier officially walked away from mixed martial arts last year after a legendary career filled with violence, heartbreak, massive wins, and unforgettable moments. But as so many retired fighters have talked about over the years, leaving the fight game behind can be its own battle.
For Poirier, it sounds like that battle has been much harder than expected.
