Ranking the best, worst helmets in the SEC
· Yahoo Sports
The SEC is home to some of the best helmets and most notable uniforms in college football. SEC brands are all among the strongest in the country. We think the SEC added two of the best helmets in the country with the recent additions of Oklahoma and Texas.

Helmets are one of the most notable pieces of a team's uniform. Teams no longer wear leather helmets, so each SEC team has a unique helmet that serves as an opportunity for a team to amplify its respective brand. We think some teams are doing better jobs than others, but overall don't think any team's primary helmet is ugly.
Below we rank our favorite SEC helmets from worst to first. Here we are sticking with the school's classic, traditional look as opposed to alternate helmets.

SEC helmet rankings from worst to first16. Vanderbilt Commodores
We don't think there's an awful helmet in the SEC. However, Vanderbilt's gold and black helmet seems to change quite a bit and it is just not our cup of tea. The Commodores recently updated their "V" logo and are building up their brand.
15. Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M and Mississippi State essentially have the same primary helmet with different logos. We prefer Mississippi State's logo over Texas A&M's. The Aggies also have alternate black helmets that are pretty awesome.
14. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Mississippi State recently redesigned its helmet, which is a major upgrade for the Bulldogs. We like the cursive "State" logo much more than Mississippi State's old logo, which was more of a label.
13. Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky has several alternate helmets, including an awesome chrome helmet the Wildcats debuted in 2014. We like the Wildcats' white helmets more than their traditional blue helmets. We'd rank Kentucky's chrome helmets higher on this list.
12. South Carolina Gamecocks
We like South Carolina's "Gamecock" logo and are fans of the garnet and black stripes on the helmet. South Carolina began wearing white helmets similar to their current helmets in 1975. The Gamecocks also have black and garnet alternates that are preferable to their white helmets.
11. Auburn Tigers
Auburn's "AU" logo is a good logo, but the Tigers' color scheme is not our favorite. Auburn's helmet is a classic and it is easily identifiable, but it has some steep competition in the SEC. The Tigers have stripes down the middle of their helmet, which goes better with their white uniforms than their blue uniforms.
10. Florida Gators
Florida's orange helmets are very recognizable, but we aren't crazy about the orange background for the helmet. Florida's blue cursive writing is unique and helps make up for the orange color. Blue and orange is just not our favorite color combination.
9. Missouri Tigers
Now, we're getting into the helmets that we truly like. Missouri's black helmets look clean. Their gold and white helmet stripes and logo really pop from the black background even though their logo is not our favorite. The Tigers have a good color scheme and we're fans of their Mizzou label. The difference is often in the details.
8. Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee has a simple, classic white helmet with a "Power T." It is very recognizable but very plain. The Volunteers have several alternate helmets, including black, gray and orange versions. The Volunteers' helmets are easy on the eyes. We prefer their classic white helmets to their alternates.
7. Arkansas Razorbacks
We love Arkansas' helmet. The Razorbacks have one of the best logos in the SEC. Their red and white color scheme is simple, but very recognizable. Arkansas' white helmets with a red logo are great looks as well. If only the Razorbacks played as a good as they looked.
6. Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama's crimson and white helmet is arguably the best in college football. Maybe we've seen Georgia lose to Alabama too many times over the years, but we don't think Alabama's helmet cracks the top five in the SEC. However, there's really nothing bad we can say about this one. The Crimson Tides' gray face mask creates a classic look that we like.
5. LSU Tigers
LSU's "LSU" and Tiger helmet is very recognizable. The Tigers have been using a helmet similar to their modern edition since 1977. We're big fans of LSU's purple and gold color scheme. Their helmet stripes are a plus.
4. Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma's "OU" helmet logo dates to 1966. The Sooners have cleaned up the "OU" a bit over the years, but for the most part Oklahoma's helmets have not changed. The Sooners should stick with their current design for the foreseeable future.
3. Texas Longhorns
We seriously considered ranking Texas No. 1. The Longhorns have a fantastic logo and their white and burnt orange helmets are very well done. In the photo above, the Longhorns' helmet looks a bit darker than usual because it was a night game. Texas' "Longhorn" logo used to also have a big number on the side of it way back in the day, but they removed that which was a good choice.
2. Georgia Bulldogs
Everybody knows the Georgia "G." The Bulldogs have the same logo as the Green Bay Packers, but it has an entirely different feel with the red and black. Georgia has the best red helmet in the SEC, but the Bulldogs are behind Ole Miss. Georgia has had some alternate helmets over the years, but they rarely go away from wearing the classic red helmets.
1. Ole Miss Rebels
We love everything about Ole Miss' helmet and uniform. The Rebels have an excellent color scheme. The cursive red "Ole Miss" logo is pretty sweet. The Rebels' red lettering really pops out from the power blue. The gray face mask goes well with the helmet. The only issue is the Rebels often wear alternate helmets.
