The Netherlands won Group F with seven points, drawing Japan before brushing aside Sweden and Tunisia. They scored 10 goals in the group stage, the most of any team, with Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey emerging as the surprise of their front line and Cody Gakpo in sharp form.
Morocco matched that seven-point haul in Group C, opening with a draw against Brazil and then beating Scotland and Haiti. Morocco became the first African nation to reach a World Cup semifinal, back in 2022, beating Spain and Portugal on the way.
Netherlands vs. Morocco history
The match falls exactly 32 years to the day since Morocco and the Netherlands last met at a World Cup, back in 1994 when the U.S. last hosted the tournament.
The Netherlands won that group-stage match 2-1 thanks to goals from Dennis Bergkamp and Bryan Roy.
