RFEF president says 2030 FIFA World Cup final “has to be at Camp Nou or the Bernabeu”

Barcelona’s dream of hosting the 2030 World Cup final at the Spotify Camp Nou has received another important boost.

RFEF president Rafael Louzan has said he has “full confidence” that the final of the tournament, which will be hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, will be played in Spain.

“The World Cup final has to be at Camp Nou or at the Bernabeu,” Louzan said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

The final venue has not yet been decided by FIFA, but the Spanish federation is clearly placing Camp Nou among the leading candidates.

Capacity can matter

Louzan also explained why Spain believes it should host the final ahead of Morocco’s Casablanca stadium.

He said: “It would not be understood if Spain were not the venue for the World Cup final. There can be no doubt that Spain has to host the final because this World Cup was born in Spain, between Spain and Portugal, and Morocco joined later.”

He then mentioned both Spanish candidates directly. Louzan explained:

“The choice of the final venue has to be assessed by FIFA. Madrid’s stadium is spectacular, Barcelona’s is being finished and it is true that it will have a difference of 25,000 more spectators, and that is not a minor detail, it is an important detail.”

That last point matters for Barcelona. A fully renovated Camp Nou would not only be modern, but also significantly larger. For a World Cup final, capacity, atmosphere and global image all carry weight.

A huge prize for Laporta’s project

Joan Laporta has already described Camp Nou as the ideal stage for the 2030 final, and Louzan’s comments support Barça’s argument.

For Barcelona, hosting the final would be more than a sporting event. It would be a powerful validation of the Espai Barça project after years of disruption, financial pressure and temporary moves.

The Bernabeu will have its case, and FIFA will ultimately decide. However, Barça can point to history, scale, identity and the renovated stadium’s expected capacity.

Louzan added: “The final word belongs to FIFA and we are going to defend Spain’s interests. Spain has to be the venue for the final, it has led this World Cup, we have 55 percent weight in the organization.”

First, Spain must beat Morocco for the final. Then Camp Nou must beat the Bernabeu. And if that happens, Barcelona’s home could host the biggest match in football for the first time.
