Orlando Pirates exits: Seven players join PSL rivals

Orlando Pirates have offloaded a total of 12 players since lifting last season’s Betway Premiership title, with seven of those departing players joining PSL rivals.

The Buccaneers are undergoing major changes ahead of their title defence next season.

The Soweto giants have released more players than any other side and have signed more than half a starting XI worth of stars (7).

They also have made the biggest sale of the season, after Bafana Bafana sensation Relebohile Mofokeng signed for Union SG in Belgium.

  • Seth Green – Durban City FC
  • Thabiso Lebitso – Stellenbosch FC
  • Bandile Shandu – Durban City FC

Orlando Pirates confirmed the departures of Thabiso Sesane and Selaelo Rasebotja to Siwelele FC, and Siyabonga Ndlozi and Gomolemo Khoto to Sekhukhune United.

Academy product Seth Green will be moving to Durban City.

Meanwhile, Shandu (Durban City) and Lebitso (Stellenbosch FC) are the other players who have could face Orlando Pirates in the 2026/27 Betway Premiership.

FIVE MORE BUCS DEPARTURES AND WHERE THEY’RE HEADING

Sonwabo Khumalo and Blessing Ngiba were among the players released by Orlando Pirates on Monday afternoon.

They will both join Midlands Wanderers FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Meanwhile, Mofokeng follows in the footsteps of Bafana Bafana legend Percy Tau, and will play his football in Europe next season for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, the same side the Lion of Judah ran out for when he joined them on a loan spell from Brighton & Hove Albion back in 2018.

Sipho Mbule has signed a deal for Zakho FC in Iraq, becoming the second player from Orlando Pirates to head overseas in this transfer window.

Tshegofatso Mabasa remains a free agent. However, he is not shy of potential suitors with the likes of Al Ahly, Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu reportedly interested in the ex-Bafana Bafana striker’s services.
