Beaumont, 35, made her debut in 2009 and has since made 260 appearances across formats, hitting 14 international hundreds.

The batter was a key cog in the England team that triumphed in the 2017 World Cup on home soil, finishing the tournament as its leading run-scorer.

Her 12 ODI hundreds are an England women's record and Beaumont is one of only two English women to score an international century in all three formats, along with Heather Knight.

“Playing for England for nearly 17 years has been the greatest honour,” Beaumont said. “When I fell in love with playing cricket as a young girl, I barely knew that playing cricket for England was an option and it brings me so much joy to think how many girls and boys have been inspired, this summer especially, and how far the game has come in our country.

“We've always wanted to take the cap forward for the next generation and the time has come for me to hand over that privilege to the next generation of England players.

“This Test match at Lord’s – our first ever women’s Test at Lord’s – feels like the perfect occasion to sign off on a career that I could never have dreamt would be as special as it has been.”

Beaumont will continue to play domestic cricket for the Blaze and for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred having begun her career with Kent.

A compact and creative right-hander, the 35-year-old emerged as an England opener in 2016 after an elevation to the top of the order under Knight’s captaincy, and flourished thereafter.

She holds the record for the highest score by an Englishwoman in Test cricket, making 208 against Australia in the Ashes in 2023, and was named one of Wisden’s Cricketers of the Year for 2019.

England take on India at Lord’s across four days from Friday looking to bounce back from T20 World Cup final defeat at the ground on Sunday.
