Relebohile Mofokeng’s mother, Naomi, has apologised to Kaizer Chiefs supporters after her son’s light-hearted comments about Amakhosi during his Orlando Pirates farewell.

During his farewell dinner, Mofokeng couldn’t resist taking a playful swipe at Pirates‘ Soweto rivals.
“I am going to keep it short,” Mofokeng said during his speech. “I will only say that I will make all of you proud. I will do everything I can, just like I did at Pirates.”
“And… yeah, I think Kaizer Chiefs can breathe now that I am no longer there,” he added before bursting into laughter.

The remarks sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some Kaizer Chiefs supporters took offence to the joke, many fans viewed it as harmless banter between rivals.
In response, Naomi Mofokeng apologised on her son’s behalf, insisting that the Bafana Bafana star meant no disrespect.
“He was joking, and he was even laughing. You all know Relebohile is humble and respects people. Askies, Makhosi. Love you so much,” she said.
Relebohile Mofokeng is expected to return to Belgium in the coming weeks to begin pre-season preparations with Royal Union Saint-Gilloise.
He leaves Orlando Pirates after making a significant impact, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists across all competitions during his time with the Soweto giants.
