Not enough people are complimenting Cam Skattebo on his new look

Cam Skattebo’s promising rookie year ended suddenly when he suffered a devastating injury in Week 8 that included an open ankle dislocation, a fractured tibia and a ruptured deltoid ligament. Surgery and months of diligent rehab work have left the New York Giants running back confident enough to say he’ll be ready for his team’s season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.
Even though he’s been off the field for some time, Skattebo has not been far from the public eye. Then he found himself dragged into a wild WWE Raw altercation back in November, an objectively hilarious thing for someone with such a serious injury to do. He really let it fly on some podcasts, drawing some criticism while also driving downloads. He even gained a fan in new Giants coach John Harbaugh, who expects Skattebo to be a top-tier back in the league this year.

Oh yeah, he also grew out his hair. That seems to the the thing most people are interested in.
If you missed it, Skattebo’s locks were in the spotlight yesterday with a hard launch in the form of some pictures. Gone is the closely-cropped ‘do, abandoned in favor of a significantly longer approach.
Some people, like me, see this and appreciate a nice young man trying something different while biding time before joining forces with Jaxson Dart on a team capable of making some noise in the NFC East this year. Others, well, all they have is jokes.
They say he looks like the kid from Matilda. Or Bam Margera. Or someone Tim Riggins would have gotten into trouble with before Coach Taylor got a late-night phone call. All these people poking fun at him may be right.
But they are absolutely wrong if they suggest this isn’t an upgrade for Skattebo. Considering his running style and personality it would be a waste if he did not give the hair-flowing-out-of-helmet look an honest try. For someone who loves to shake their head, not having any hair just feels wrong. All of those grunge rockers who head-banged grew out their lettuce for a reason.
Skattebo is poised to become an even larger fan favorite with a franchise desperate to win and the pieces coming into place for them to do so. So it seems like the right time for a proper re-introduction anyway. He shouldn’t apologize for looking awesome.
