On Dembele’s goal, a right-footed strike, midfielder Michael Olise swung a pass into Mbappe, who touched it back for Dembele. Mbappe regained the ball, dribbled up the pitch and brought defenders with him to give Dembele the opening he needed to take the pass and strike home the insurance goal.
Dembele had a hat trick against Norway, a 4-1 win for “Les Bleus,” on June 26. Only he and Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Jonathan David of Canada have scored three times in one match this World Cup.
