The 1962 season was the first for Wally Lemm as head coach. They finished 4-9-1.

After winning their season opener, they went 0-4-1 in their next five games and then had a five-game losing streak before winning their final two games.

1962 individual honors, leaders

The Cardinals had five players in the Pro Bowl:

  • CB Jimmy Hill
  • RB John David Crow
  • WR Sonny Randle
  • LB Bill Koman
  • S Larry Wilson

Hill was also a second-team All-Pro.

Quarterback Charley Johnson made his first NFL starts in 1962, starting 10 games. He went 3-6-1 and passed for 2,440 yards, 16 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

Crow led the team with 751 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.

Randle caught 63 passes for 1,158 yards and seven touchdowns, while Bobby Joe Conrad added 62 catches for 954 yards and four scores.

Cornerback Billy Stacy led the team with six defensive interceptions.
