Julian Alvarez is hoping to win another FIFA World Cup with Lionel Messi ahead of a potential move to FC Barcelona.
Alvarez and Messi reached the pinnacle of football in 2022 and are aiming to win the FIFA World Cup for a second time in a row this year, with a crucial semi-final tie against England on the horizon.

Speaking ahead of Argentina’s game against England, Julian Alvarez opened up about his relationship with Lionel Messi, and how much he means to him.
Alvarez called Messi his idol, and admitted that the opportunity to help him win another FIFA World Cup is a huge honour for him.
“There are photos of me as a little kid with Messi. I grew up watching him play. He is my idol, and my brothers’ idol too.
“To keep playing alongside him, achieve another great milestone with the Argentine national team, and help him however I can means everything to me.”
Alvarez admitting that Messi is his idol helps contextualise his recent links to FC Barcelona, as he hopes to leave Atletico Madrid to join the Blaugrana.

For now, Alvarez has put any talk of a transfer to Barcelona on the back burner, as he has made Argentina’s run in the FIFA World Cup his main focus.
While Alvarez briefly made comments about wanting to leave Atletico Madrid, he has mostly stayed quiet out of respect for the national team.
Should Alvarez join Barcelona, he would be the first player to play for the team since Sergio Aguero, who played a few games with the team before his retirement.
Obviously, Messi is the most identifiable Argentine athlete in Barcelona’s history, followed by Diego Maradona, who spent a season with the team.
Perhaps he can earn the biggest move of his career after winning his second FIFA World Cup, capping off an incredible summer for him.
