Mississauga man charged in 4 hate-motivated assaults; Halton cops seek truck in hit-and-run

York cops have charged a 27-year-old Mississauga man in connection with four hate-motivated assaults in Vaughan and Markham and believe there may be more victims.

York Regional Police said on June 9 at about 8:45 p.m., officers responded to an assault in the area of Major Mackenzie Dr. W. and Amusement Dr. after it was alleged that the suspect made a racial comment and assaulted the victim and fled on foot.

Authorities also alleged that on June 11 at about 2:50 p.m., the same suspect approached a second victim in the area of Weston Rd. and Starling Blvd., assaulted them, made a racial comment and fled on foot.

Police alleged that the suspect was responsible for two additional hate-motivated assaults, one on June 18 in the area of Bass Pro Mills Dr. and Fishermen’s Way, and another on July 2 in the area of McCowan Rd. and Southdale Dr. in Markham.

Investigators have released an image of the suspect because they believe there may be additional victims and are encouraging them to come forward.

The suspect was arrested on July 10. Fardin Sajid was charged with four counts of assault, one count of mischief under $5,000 and eight counts of breach of probation.

At the time of the incidents, Sajid was on probation for unrelated offences.

Halton cops probe hit-and-run

Halton police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a pickup truck and its driver in connection with a hit-and-run collision in Milton.

Cops said that on June 24 at about 4 p.m., they responded to a truck-motorcycle collision at the intersection of Regional Rd. 25 and Etheridge Ave.

Police alleged that a motorcycle was struck by a grey Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that was making a left turn (westbound) onto Etheridge from Regional Rd. 25 before the truck fled the scene at a high rate of speed without stopping.

The motorcyclist was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A photo of the vehicle has been released and the truck would have sustained damage to the passenger side as a result of the collision.

It also has black rims and a roof rack.

Durham cops investigating sex assault

Durham police have updated the description of an Ajax sexual assault suspect following further investigation.

The suspect is is described as a brown male, approximately 5-foot-4, 60-70 years-old, with a medium build, balding short grey hair, facial stubble, and gaps in his teeth. He was wearing a tan-coloured shirt.

Cops alleged that on Thursday, July 9 at about 8:30 a.m., the suspect approached a female in the area of Harwood Ave. N. and Rossland Rd., attempted to make conversation and shake her hand, before sexually assaulting her, and fleeing.

The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.

Toronto cops probing two-vehicle crash

Toronto Police Service are asking for local residents, businesses, and drivers who may have security of dash-camera footage to help with a personal injury collision investigation.

Police said that on Monday at about 3:50 p.m., they responded to a two-vehicle crash in the Lawrence Ave. E. and Charlottetown Blvd. area.

It’s reported that a 91-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Corolla eastbound on Lawrence Ave. E. and a 38-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Rav 4 northbound on Charlottetown Blvd.

Cops say the 91-year-old woman suffered a medical episode causing the Corolla to run the red light, collide with the Rav 4 and then strike a building and she was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
