Accused thief allegedly threatened to kill Scarborough grocery store employee

Investigators need help identifying a man who allegedly pulled a knife on a Scarborough grocery store employee after he was caught stealing.
Toronto Police say officers responded to a theft near Kennedy Rd. and Progress Ave. just after it occurred around 7:40 p.m. on June 23.
“It is reported that a male suspect entered a grocery store and loaded a shopping cart with items from the freezer aisle,” police said in a statement released Saturday, explaining the person then allegedly “concealed the items inside their backpack and walked past all points of payment without making any attempt to pay.”
Police said the store’s loss prevention officer “confronted the suspect outside the doors” and “attempted to restrain” him.
The suspect allegedly “assaulted” the loss prevention officer, then “brandished a knife and threatened to kill the employee” before running off.
Investigators have released images of a suspect hoping members of the public recognize him and come forward.
The suspect is described as approximately 40 years old, with a medium build and a goatee. He was last seen wearing a dark-coloured T-shirt, camouflage pants, white shoes, a black and white bucket hat with a white flower pattern, and a light brown backpack.
Investigators are looking for information, dashcam footage, or security video from the area of William Kitchen Rd., Kennedy Rd., and Antrim Cr. between 7:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on June 23.
