Investigators have taken the rare step of obtaining a court order to identify two teenage brothers wanted for the deadly shooting of a man in Brampton earlier this month.

Peel Regional police say officers responded to a shooting in the area of Edenbrook Hill Dr. and Earlsbridge Blvd. – a residential neighbourhood near Chinguacousy Rd. And Sandalwood Pkwy. – around 3:40 p.m. on July 5.

“Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound,” police said in a statement released Friday. “The victim, a man in his 20s, was transported to a trauma centre, where he later succumbed to his injuries.”

The victim’s identity has not been released.

Investigators have now identified two brothers, Shemii Whittaker and Shemel Whittaker, both 17, of Brampton, as suspects in the killing.

Brothers wanted for first-degree murder

Both boys are wanted for first-degree murder.

“The suspects should be considered armed and dangerous,” police said. “If seen, members of the public are urged not to approach them and to call 911 immediately.”

Investigators are also urging the suspects to “seek legal counsel and surrender to police.”

“They also remind the public that anyone found harbouring or assisting the suspect may be arrested and charged,” police said.
