The Boston Red Sox were in a battle on Friday night, and that was true again on Saturday night.
In both games, Wilyer Abreu showed up when they needed him. Boston's star right fielder hit a pair of home runs in each contest as the Red Sox found a way to win both.
They've now won 12 in a row, have moved above .500 at 49-48, and have Abreu swinging his best at a great time for it.
He's got one of those smooth, effortless, left-handed swings that looks oh so pretty when it connects.
Lately, it's been connecting often.
And when Abreu clobbered his second homer Saturday, a go-ahead blast in a come-from-behind victory, he spiked the heck out of his bat. It was awesome:

Abreu is the first Red Sox player to hit multiple home runs in consecutive games since Mookie Betts did it in 2016, according to MLB Network's Sarah Langs.
He'll have a chance Sunday to become the fifth player in MLB history with three multi-homer games in a row:

Can he join this list in his next game?
Only 4 MLB players have had 3 straight multi-HR games:
2003 Jeff DaVanon
1969 Lee May
1962 Frank Thomas
1951 Gus Zernial https://t.co/U0jwufDGZU
Abreu is a player who usually begins the season red hot but then finds a rut in the middle.
He seems to have woken up out of the All-Star Break like a guy who feels refreshed and ready to go again.
The Red Sox likely would've had their win streak snapped without what Abreu is doing right now. It's a special time at Fenway Park, and Abreu is right at the heart of the party.
