Could Alex DeBrincat reunite with Patrick Kane on Blackhawks? Instagram post sparks the idea

· Yahoo Sports

Once Connor Bedard said he wanted to see Patrick Kane back on the Blackhawks, the writing was on the wall. Just three days later, the 37-year-old franchise legend left the Detroit Red Wingsto sign a new two-year contract in Chicago back at his old stomping grounds. He could be a willing and quality mentor to the still-young and promising Bedard.

While I doubt Bedard will publicly endorse bringing in another relatively recent prolific ex-Blackhawk and current Red Wing in Alex DeBrincat (not because of anything personal; DeBrincat just isn't a team legend, per se), all of a sudden it feels somewhat plausible to see the winger going back to Chicago.

For one, Kane and DeBrincat are pretty good friends, dating back to their Chicago days in the late 2010s and early 2020s. It's to the point where, with both Kane and DeBrincat being on the Red Wings together, even their children are friends. Factor in an Instagram goodbye to Kane from DeBrincat, who has just one year left on his contract in Detroit, and where there's smoke, there could be fire:

Of course, the Blackhawks still have to express some interest in acquiring DeBrincat. It's hard to imagine Chicago trading for DeBrincat on an expiring deal when the 28-year-old will be a free agent in the summer, but I suppose crazier things have happened.

As for what this acquisition would mean for the Blackhawks on the ice, well, their forward group would actually look passable for the first time in the Bedard era. Kane, while older, can still resemble a near-60-point player at his best. DeBrincat, meanwhile, is coming off 107 goals combined in his last three seasons. The man is still a sniper near the net. Imagine a potential line featuring the gifted Bedard at center with DeBrincat and Kane on the respective wings. The potential for consistent fireworks from this trio would be massive.

The writing might not yet be on the wall for a DeBrincat reunion with the Blackhawks. But there definitely seems to be a path to his return.

How long have Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat been teammates?

Kane and DeBrincat were first teammates on the Blackhawks from 2017 to 2022. They would later reunite on the Red Wings in 2023 and have played together ever since. Unless DeBrincat joins Kane in Chicago this coming season, this year would be the first time the duo wasn't on the same team in a while.
